I was the guest on the Untitled Art Show June 2nd, talking about the show and all things art. It's a terrific arts webcast based here in Denver. I listen every week. "Altered" opened June 4th with one of the best attended opening in Walker history. We had two great write-ups in the Westword, one announcing the show, and a review by Michael Paglia. The show was also reviewed on Adobe Airstream, and there is an interview in Metromode Magazine. One of the paintings, "Candice" sold to the Tullman Collection in Chicago, and I am thrilled to be part of this amazing figurative collection. Just gave an artist talk at the gallery on July 2nd. In between, there have been openings and events all around town at the Denver Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, and assorted galleries, and the Biennial of the Americas just open with huge fanfare. On a personal note, we adopted Max, a sweet little black pug in June. He and Emma, my fawn pug, are getting along famously and he is just a delight. (he is perched on my lap as I type this). I am currently catching up on gardening, house projects, and a few small commissions. Looks like next month will be the start of a very large multi-painting project that will span 3 years and 9 cities. More on that soon...hope you are enjoying your summer. April 2010 Spring in Colorado finds me at the easel, enjoying the beautiful weather through an open window as I paint 12 hour days, 7 days a week. No rest for the wicked, as finishing the big commission put me behind painting for the Walker show in June by about a month. The opening will be June 4th. Nothing else of note to report, all is well, just working hard. You can always see what I'm up to on the webcam. December 2009 Oh, I am so very behind writing here. Not since April! I'm such a bad girl. It's been a very eventful 8 months. Most notably, I have signed with one of Denver's top art galleries, Walker Fine Art. My first show with Walker will be June 4th-July 10th, 2010. Currently been very busy with a HUGE commission (4' x 8') with seven figures. I should have it finished up in another 6 weeks, then will be putting the nose to the grindstone, er a, canvas painting for the show at Walker. I am planning a trip to San Francisco in the Spring to seek gallery representation there. Also seeking representation in New York...on a personal note, I moved in with my long-time boyfriend in his beautiful old Victorian four months ago. I am working in a lovely upstairs room with high ceilings and good light. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Talk to you next year! April 2009 Things are crazy par usual...painting like mad getting ready for the 2 upcoming shows. My buddy Chris Parente with Channel 2 news came and did 2 live shots from First Friday on the 3rd, featuring my friends Anthony Camera and Brianna Martray. There is a bit with yours truly in it towards the end of the first shot (there are 2 parts). Here is the link: http://www.2thedeuce.com/news/parente/ just go to the section that says "Chris Parente goes to first Friday". The article on me and my art in the UK's "Skin Deep" magazine is out...hits the US stands on April 7th. CLICK HERE. I'm now on Twitter under "vlasicstudio", and blogging at www.vlasicstudio.blogspot.com. You can also find me on Facebook and myspace. Can you say "multiple web presence"?? February 2009 February finds me chained to the easel, with 2 big shows coming up in June and July, a main gallery show at Space Gallery in June (opening June 5th), and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival July 3,4 & 5. I had a brief trip to NYC earlier in the month, and it was wonderful. I spent 3 days in Moma, the Met and the Guggenheim. I was blown away by the scope and breadth of the art on display. One full day was spent at the Met, and I still didn't get to everything I wanted to see. I will be back...Of course, I took lots of pictures that I will be painting as part of my "Art Museum" series. The Denver Syntax article is now online at www.denversyntax.com. Just click on the "art" link. We are enjoying something of an early spring here in Denver, it is sunny and in the 50's today, and I'm loving it. Hope it is lovely where ever you are.
December 2008 Wow, this year has rocketed by. I am amazed to see 2009 is nearly upon us. I do hope this holiday finds you happy and well, and that the New Year is your best yet. I currently have many irons in the fire. I have 2 magazine interviews coming out early '09, one for the UK's "Skin Deep" tattoo magazine in March, and one for the art e-zine "Syntax" in January. I'll find out on January 7th if I've been juried into CCAF again this year. Looks like I'll be doing a show at Space Gallery in June, and I'm in negotiations to contract with one of Denver's top galleries. On the personal front, all is well. The dogs are happy and sassy. I'm looking forward to a brief trip to the Big Apple in February. Know any galleries I should visit while I'm there? Please let me know. I'm also seeking representation in San Francisco...Take care, keep warm, and have a wonderful holiday. September 2008 It's been a crazy busy summer. I finished my first art book (Click here). Let me tell you, I have a new-found respect for writers. The editing process is maddening. I am now painting new works for my upcoming solo show at Kitchen's Ink in November. I'll be moving in a couple weeks (yuck) to a larger unit in my building so I'll have a little more space to work in. The big news of the month is I was awarded Best in Show for "Please wait to be seated" at the Core juried "Place" show. Yea! Thank you Ivar Zeile! (owner of Plus + Gallery, juror of the show) July 2008 What a month was June...worked like mad gearing up for the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, and all the hard work paid off. It was my best show to date. Thank you so much to all of you who helped me get ready; and who put up with my madness in the process! A very special thanks to David Castle for the generous use of his tent for the show. (he is a fabulous watercolor artist. See his work at www.DavidCastleArt.com) I'm almost caught back up now, and will be back at the easel very soon. I also have some new giclée & photo prints available that I will updating on this site within the next week or so. I had 2 live TV interviews just before and during the festival which are below. It was fun! Next show will be at Kitchen's Ink with a November 1st Opening Night Reception. I'm planning some unusual happenings that night, so be sure and put it on your calendar! Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Now accepting commissions for the holiday season. Have a marvelous July. CHERRY CREEK ARTS FESTIVAL July 4, 5 & 6 Booth #215 on Fillmore St. Here is my first TV interview! Filmed July 1, 2008 for the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Boy was I nervous!
Here is my second interview, this time on Channel 2, Filmed July 4, 2008, on site at the festival
Here is a news clip that does a great job explaining the CCAF jury process. If you look behind Terry during his interview, you'll see my work up before the jury! How funny is that!
June 2008 Yes, I know I skipped a month. I've been a busy girl. I shouldn't even be typing this now but...As of today, 8 days to go till CCAF. Going a bit bonkers, but getting it done. The biggest news I have is that I'm the sole artist selected to do a live in-studio interview on Channel 7 next Tuesday, July 1st. Yikes. Zoinks. Oi and double oi. I'm a little nervous, but I'm sure it will be fine. Bertha Lynn will interview me on the morning news show at 6 am for a four minute segment. I'm going to have a friend record it, and will try to post it here after the show. Other than that, just getting ready and painting painting painting. It's getting bloody hot here (97 yesterday!) hopefully it will cool off a little for the festival. Hope you are having a great summer! April 2008 You may have noticed I've got a brand new look. I've decided, after much long hard thought, it was time for a more sophisticated look, and to say goodbye to "the Flying Pickle" moniker. You will still be able to access this site through the old name, but now www.MarieVlasic.com and www.VlasicStudio.com will be the main website addresses. Do let me know what you think. Spring has finally landed here in Denver with a gorgeous day and a high of 63 (of course, this being Colorado, it could snow tomorrow!) I'm sitting here enjoying a lovely sangria, then it's back to work. Only 3 months till Cherry Creek! March 2008 Work work
work...not much else to report. Just had a big birthday (never ask a lady how
old she is!) and will be celebrating with friends this weekend. Still searching
for a new band, but it is on the back burner till I get through the Cherry Creek
Arts Festival (4th of July Weekend) In fact, pretty much everything is on the
back burner till then. I did open up an "etsy.com" January 2008 Ai yai yai...what a year was 2007. Lots of ups and downs, and lots of paintings. I won't bore you with a total recap of 2007...all is well, the "kids" (my 2 dogs) are happy & yappy; the boyfriend is well; I'm no longer singing with File 13 (the band), and am currently searching for a new band as well as playing and writing with my boyfriend. (he's an amazing pro guitar player). I closed my Santa Fe Arts District studio and am back to working from home. I just found out that I was selected to exhibit at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, the #1 outdoor art show in the country, for the second time this year. I am very honored to be selected, as less than 10% of the applicants got in. It's a bit of a good/bad, as it does mean I'll have to work twice as hard between now and July to create an inventory for the show. If you'd like to see what I'm up to, email me at theflyingpickle@hotmail.com and I'll put you on my emailing list. My email client list gets the first "Sneak Peak" of all new work. I have some fantastic painting ideas for the festival...I do hope all of your holidays were fantastic, and that your New Year is happy and prosperous!
